Health Information Management
Question: What department is responsible
The Health Information Management (HIM) department is responsible for the inspection, processing, filing and maintenance of patient clinical records, and for providing maximum confidentiality of such records for the benefit and protection of the patient.
A clinical record is maintained for each patient admitted to the facility, in accordance with accepted professional principles, and according to standards as set forth by federal and state regulations and accrediting agencies.
All routine requests for release of Protected Healthcare Information (PHI) are handled by the HIM department.
The HIM department is also responsible for the assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes and the transcription of all dictated reports.
